Observatory Community Organisations
Noise Action Group: This community organisation aims to represent Observatory residents who suffer from noise pollution emanating from Observatory's nighclubs and pubs. It is an independent organisation, but works closely with the Observotory Civic Assocation. Henk Stutterheim is the chair. Contact Michael Muller on 082 589 3240.Observatory Business Forum: The OBF represents businesses mainly situated in the central business and restaurant area of Obs, as well as backpackers or guesthouses in the area. The OBF's primary role is to liaise
with community organisations on behalf of the businesses of Observatory. One of their main aims is to ensure that this part of Obs (which attracts thousands of visitors over weekends) is kept safe, clean and attractive. Membership

Observatory Civic Association: The OCA has been in existence for at least 10 years. Its function is to liaise with our local Ward 57 Councillor and the City Council and to represent the interests of residents and business in Obs. The OCA is also represented on the Ward Forum for Ward 57, and has the right to send a representative to attend meetings of the Good Hope Sub-Council. It holds regular meeting at the Observatory Community Centre on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., and residents are welcome to attend and raise concerns. Observatory Community and Recreation Centre: Situated in the centre of Obs, and is run by a committee of community members. The hall and rooms in the Centre are hired to various groups and organisations who use the Centre on a regular basis. It also hosts the Holistic Fair on the first Sunday of each month. Observatory Neighbourhood Watch: ONW is a voluntary association and membership costs nothing. It aims to make Observatory a safer and more friendly place. ONW shares information, acts collectively, and cooperates with the Woodstock Police. Regular monthly committee meetings are held, and ONW members are welcome to attend.
